Whittonstall First School - Where Every Child Matters

RETURN TO CLASS PAGES

There are currently 23 children in Class 3. The children are a mix of years 3 and 4 and are all  set work to suit their own level of ability within the year 3 and 4 schemes of work.

We combine a mixture of individual and group work in all lessons, with a gret deal of hands- on practical learning and teaching.

We try to prepare the children for the transition into middle school and the style of working they will meet there. Therefore, we have developed close links with the year 5 middle school teachers.

Individual good effort is rewarded with merit points, resulting in certificates presented in achievers assemblies. Group effort is rewarded with marbles in the jar, which earn a class treat. Past treats have included a 'wheely day' when the children brought in scooters, bikes and skates. Also cinema days with popcorn and movies have been gained.

Class 3 also take part in a variety of off-site activities such as; the 'Chance to Shine' Cricket Tournament, Top Play Festival, Hexham Dance Festival and Inter- School Football Championships. We also enjoy a range of  trips to support all areas of our curriculum. Recent trips have included Washington Old Hall, Sunderland Winter Gardens, Newcastle Discovery Museum, Bede's world and the Life Centre.

In the summer term, children in Year 4 take part in a 3 day residential trip to Ford Castle in Northumberland.
